I would like to introduce myself as a Conservative Candidate for the Holyrood Ward in the upcoming local elections.
I am proud to call Bury my home.
I never thought I would come to rely on the help of others but when I arrived in the UK, I found myself in a situation where I desperately needed to be able to talk to someone.
When I arrived in the UK in 2008, I couldn't speak any English, but people were so kind and welcoming. I cried and cried tears of happiness because, in North Korea, I didn't feel welcome, but in the UK, people made me feel at home.
Now that the UK is my home, I am not just going to be the recipients of other people's kindness, I am also going to support others going through difficult situations.
I know last year had been one of the most difficult and challenging moments in our history but the light will always shine in the darkness.
Last year I supported local care homes and they said that they really applaud the refugees; coming to another country as an escapee and supporting another country's people with donations.
These words gave me courage and helped me support those many people who need us.
Winston Churchill said that "Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak, Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen"
The reason I want to stand up as Local councillor is that I think residents need to have a lot of patience, be dedicated, passionate about becoming involved with the community and just generally interested in the local democracy and trying to make the community in which you live in much better. These are the qualities I possess.
If elected, I will be listening to our residents, our neighbours and I will protect our people.
