Woodbank Primary School’s children recently got the chance to grill their local Councillor.
The opportunity occurred during Councillor Jack Rydeheard’s recent visit to the school.
The local Councillor visited and met with headteacher Mrs Macadam, before spending some time talking to Year 6 and then the school council.
Year 6 had some very interesting and testing questions for Councillor Rydeheard, following his short introduction. Questions asked by the children included the reasons he became a Councillor, how the democratic process works and what advice he would give to anyone thinking of standing for election.
The visit, it turns out, coincided with elections for head boy and head girl and all of the candidates were there to hear what Jack had to say!
The school council then got the chance to talk to Councillor Rydeheard about the school, what they enjoy about coming to school and what he could do to help make school even better.
The visit to the school was warmly welcomed by Councillor Rydeheard.
Councillor Jack Rydeheard said: “I’ve said before - visiting the schools in my ward are the best part of my job.
“I was really impressed with how much Year 6 knew about how democracy works, and how many wanted to run for election to be head boy and head girl. There are brilliant candidates for both!
“Mrs Macadam and the rest of the staff here at Woodbank Primary School are fantastic, and it’s clear to see that they are very well liked and respected by the children. The culture here is amazing, and of course I’m looking forward to finding out who is elected head boy and head girl!”
